Due to the volume of events covered, cancelations, sold out and full events might not always be updated in the calendar or old blog posts. Please always check directly with the event venue (links to venues or original postings are at the bottom of calendar entries or linked via the event name in blog posts) to ensure the event is still scheduled and available.
Local, Seasonal & Sustainable
Intro

I procrastinated doing this page for a while: so much of Seattle's food scene is all about being local, sustainable and seasonal, how to know what to include and what to leave out in the resources?
Then I decided to just return to my guiding principle for this site: helpful starting points for the curious novice. So this list might not be completely inclusive, but I hope it will be useful to someone who might not already be a locavore but is looking to make some changes to live more sustainably and needs a way in. Check out these resources, blogs, organizations and events for some great places to start.
Seattle Local Food Blogs
Cook Local is a great site and tweeter. Their site is frequently updated with timely recipes using what's in season. They also recently acquired the awesome website Seasonal Cornucopia from Chef Becky Selengut (see below). The site is a searchable database of what's in season in the Puget Sound region. They are adding a new feature to that already great site: links to relevant recipes for each of the ingredients. NEW! This just in: Seasonal Cornucopia will be tweeting under FoodinSeason for produce availability and farmers market reports, so subscribe there too.
Online resource Local Harvest can be used "to find farmers' markets, family farms, and other sources of sustainably grown food in your area where you can buy produce, grass-fed meats, and many other goodies."
Eat Local Now is a collaboration between several local sustainability groups and has the goal "to promote the importance of the local food system in Cascadia and to form the connections needed to take action to strengthen our local food economy." You can check out a video of the yearly dinner here.
Check out SCALLOPS - Sustainable Communities All Over Puget Sound - to find a group close to your neighborhood. Some groups offer gardening classes or help, canning events and other community events.
The Community Alliance for Global Justice has a Food Justice project (check out this video for more info)and recently put out Our Food, Our Right. The 72-page locally-produced book is available on a sliding scale and includes sections on "composting and container gardening...food preservation (canning, pickling, freezing, and drying)...CSA’s, farmers’ markets, and community kitchens; local community resources for getting involved in strengthening local food economies everywhere" and more.
Good Food Documentary Trailer
