Weeknight Highlights, Week of August 16
Image via Flickr user KevinDooleyThis week's evening food event highlights are quite Continental, with two French-ish events and one celebrating a Venetian bar, so I'm balancing it out by starting the week with Elvis.
And here are some other things you can also check out this week...
- Free and low-cost ways to keep cool in Seattle
- Free events on Freeattle
- Outdoor & nature events on Seattle Natural Selection
- Become a fan on Facebook for Three for Free on Monday (an especially good one this week!)

Wednesday, August 18, 5pm: Bastille’s Rooftop Garden Tour. "Nowhere is Bastille’s commitment to community sustainability more evident than in our rooftop garden. Colin McCrate of Seattle Urban Farm Company oversees the operation, in conjunction with Shannon Galusha, our Executive Chef…The rooftop is not only home to various greens and vegetables, but also to over 240,000 North American honey bees! Corky Luster of Ballard Bee Company harvests honey from the 6 hives in the garden…Having the bees at Bastille is all part of the restaurant’s focus on using existing spaces in an innovative way to add true local flavor to the menu. Fear not! They are fairly docile and are far more interested in pollen-bearing plants than humans!...The tours include a cocktail (or mocktail) crafted from rooftop ingredients by our chef de bar, Charles Veitch. $10. Please call 206.453.5014 to reserve a spot on the tour!
Thursday, August 19, 4pm: Harry's Bar Festival Kick-Off Party. "Celebrate the iconic Venetian bar where Bellinis and Carpaccio were invented. Vessel extols the good life and applauds Italians for showing us how to live it - with the most tasteful, tasty indulgences…Revel in the pleasures of the season. Harry's Bar, open since 1931, is considered by many to be the most iconic bar in the world. Not only is it renowned for its quality of food, drinks and service, but also for the invention by its founder, Giuseppe Cipriani, of the BELLINI (a cocktail of white peach puree and Prosecco) and CARPACCIO (delicate shavings of raw beef fillet with garnish of mustard-based sauce). VESSEL's menu…will include these delectables served in traditional Harry's Bar style, as well as other classic dishes and drinks inspired by their menu."
