Indian Restaurant Recommendation Round-Up
Jalebi at Punjab SweetsI am closing out Indian Cooking Week with a listing of some local folks’ favorite Indian restaurants. If you have one that’s not mentioned, please let us know in the comments! I would love to hear it.
And don't forget - if you want to cook Indian at home, check out the Indian Market Tour!
(P.S. There will be no weekend round-up this week, but all will return next week. Also there will be a major calendar update this weekend, so check back!)
- Carole Cancler of the Seattle Farmers Market Examiner (on Twitter: WhatsInSeason) likes the Renton Pabla Cuisine “delish” vegetarian buffet.
- My friend Sarah seconds the Renton Pabla pick and adds a South Indian spot in Bellevue called Udupi Palace, noting it's the only place she's found with dosas.
- Superpages Seattle likes the Kabab House in Greenwood (although notes it’s more Pakistani food).
- Brett and Mandy of Seattle Date Night (on Twitter: SeattleDateNite) love Roti in Queen Anne.
- Rachel of RachelPhotoDiary says her household favorite is the Indian Bistro on of Roosevelt. (Thanks to Rachel for the update and link!)
- My friend and local Turkish/Mediterranean cooking teacher Pinar Ozhal (on Twitter: POzhal) says “I think I like Shalimar and Cedar's in University District as good casual Indian restaurants and Bombay Grill on Roosevelt is my favorite, is which a little bit more fine dining style.”
- John and Patricia of CookLocal (on Twitter: CookLocal) are still on the lookout for a more sustainable restaurant, but in the meantime, their go-to spot is Bengal Tiger.
- My pal Debbie likes Taste of India on Roosevelt.
- And Karuna, my most excellent guide for the Indian Market Tour, likes Naan and Curry in Renton and also seconds Superpages recommendation for the Kabab House in Greenwood.
I can’t say the whole place is a favorite only because I haven’t eaten Indian out enough to make a comparison, but I will say I LOVE the Papadi Chaat (aka “Indian nachos” per the menu) and the jalebi sweet (this sticky sweet fried thing) at Punjab Sweets in Kent.
One of the reasons I don’t eat out that often is I am usually economizing. If you are too, or if you or someone you know is in real need of a free meal, there are free vegetarian meals offered by the Vedic Cultural Center at My Sweet Lord in the U-District.

Actually, it's India Bistro of Roosevelt (it's not on Roosevelt exactly). The web site is here:

We like the Chicken Korma and the Mixed Tandoor, amongst other dishes.
Taste of India, a mile south on Roosevelt, south of Ravenna Blvd is good too. My husband loves the neverending cup of chai.
