On the Menu This Weekend (Fri 1/23/9 to Sun 1/25/9)
Here's what's up this weekend. See the Calendar page or the one embedded below (I can't make up my mind how I'm structuring this whole thing, bear with me) for all the details.
Friday
- While I’m reluctant to support an event created by Big Pie (the American Pie Council®), pie is just so cute and friendly, what can I do but tell you that Friday is National Pie Day. The Eagles Club is holding a Celebration that benefits the Marsha Rivkin Center for Ovarian Research. Bring a pie or buy a ticket. Some local pie sources: High 5 Pie, Shoofly Pie, Dahlia Bakery. (Ballard, starts at 6pm)
- Movie Night at Theo Chocolate, appropriately showing “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” (Fremont, starts at 6:30pm)
- Like Arrested Development? Like drinking coffee? Test your Arrested Development knowledge at a trivia contest and maybe win free Neptune Coffee. Practice! Haven’t watched it? What is wrong with you? Start! Hulu has them all! (Greenwood, starts 8pm)
Saturday
- It’s National Soup Swap Day! (Of course, you can soup swap anytime.)
- Tet Festival – Vietnamese Lunar New Year - at the Seattle Center.
- U-District Farmers Market (9am-2pm)
Flickr CC - GeishabotNWFF Children’s Film Festival: Saturday Morning Pancake Breakfast and Short Film Smorgasbord (Capitol Hill, starts at 9:30am)- Charity Indian Lunch for Western WA Flood Victims (Woodinville, starts at 11am)
- Couple of author talks loosely related to foodish stuff: Erica Bauermeister "The School of Essential Ingredients" at the Elliott Bay Book Company and Eric Cegni "In Cod We Trust" in Ballard. (Both start at 2pm)
- Gifts From the Earth: features 15 of Seattle's finest chefs each preparing a multi-course meal. Each course is accompanied by wine from one of 30 different Washington wineries participating in the event. Benefits South Seattle Community College. (SSCC, starts at 5pm)
- Crab Feed and Silent Auction for Leif Erickson Lodge (Don’t be fooled by the name, it’s more of a Crab EAT than a Crab Feed. Sorry, friends of crabs.) (Ballard, starts at 6pm)
- Oh! Chocolate Chocolate Class (Madison Park, starts at 6:30pm)
Sunday
- Tet Festival continues. (Seattle Center)
- Vegetarian Cooking Class at the Buddhist Jewel Monastery. (10am-12pm)

- Ballard Farmers Market (10am-3pm)
- Oh! Chocolate Chocolate Class again (Madison Park, starts at 5:30pm)
- African Music and African Food at Hidmo – this weeks it’s “Edward Souarez w/ Atlantic Melody High-energy pop music of Guinea, with a group brought to you by Edward Sourarez (Guinea), the best African trap-set drummer and vocalist this side of the Atlantic.” (Central District, starts at 8pm)
