Image via Flickr user ChrisHey Freeple! Here are the free events happening this weekend. Lots of arts & crafts: sewing, a charpai, printmaking, flower press and more!
Also don't forget to check out the giveaways on Fresh-Picked and Seattle Natural Selection.
Saturday, August 28
- 10am-12pm: Free Public Tour of Kubota Gardens.
- 10am: Rick Steves Travel Class: Packing Light & Right with Ann Neel.
- 11am: Skirt Sewing Class at Goods for the Planet. (RSVP in advance.)
- 2pm: Outdoor Summer Concert Series: Sub-Motive. "Sub-Motive has been creating original music together for over ten years. They have performed all over the Pacific Northwest, including the EMP, Bumbershoot, Bite of Seattle, Taste of Tacoma, Showbox, and took first place for a Paramount Pictures-sponsored Battle of the Bands, which was promoting the movie School of Rock, starring Jack Black." They have self-produced and recorded three full-length albums of original material, and are currently recording a fourth album.
- 2pm: Charpai Craft at the Lake City Branch. "Join us to craft a model of a charpai, a Middle Eastern outdoor bed, using a wooden frame and colorful yarn. It is common in villages and is traditionally woven with a lot of creativity." RSVP.
- 6:30pm: Teen Art Studios: Figurative Casting & Installation. "All materials provided. All levels welcome. Space is limited, so be sure to arrive on time. Make friends and build a killer portfolio! Or just have fun making art."
- 9pm: Free Film: Star Trek at the Seattle Center Mural Amphitheatre.
Sunday, August 29
- 12-6pm: Seattle Peace Concerts at Volunteer Park.
- 12pm & 2pm: Art Demo: Printmaking - White Line Block Prints at Daniel Smith Seattle.
- 11am-3pm: Hands-on Days – Flower Press Crafts. Hands-on days held the Fourth Saturday of each month. Please drop in from 11am to 3pm for fun, free projects for children ages 4 to 12. The dog days of summer call out for making memories. Learn how to do that by using your very own Flower Press - maybe even watch the scary movie 'Picnic at Hanging Rock.' Set in the late 1890s-early 1900s, you'll actually see someone doing that.
- 1-5pm: 2010 Beacon Rocks! Featuring YAAMBA Marimba, Glenn Bell Band, Splinter Dance Company, The Colour Project, Jessie McKenna, Red Heart Alarm.
