Sew Up Seattle Sewing Class, October 22, 2011 (10)
Seattle Public Library has been running an Urban Self-Reliance Series this fall, and they brought in Sew Up Seattle (sewupseattle.blogspot.com/) for some sewing classes. Sew Up Seattle is a community organization that offers free monthly sewing classes with donated machines and volunteer instructors. -
Native Plant Walk April 17, 2010 (26)
The always-awesome Discovery Park offers many free walks and talks through its Environmental Learning Center. This great walk was led by volunteer docent Kristen. Gallery includes some bonus ethnobotany & edibility info. -
Somali Cooking Class at the New Holly Library (8)
In May 2009, the New Holly Library offered a class in Somali cooking. Pictures and link to library book on the topic in the gallery. -
Washington Park Arboretum Tours (w/Bonus Arboretum Scoop!) (36)
The Arboretum offers free guided tours at 11am & 1:30pm on 1st & 3rd Sun of the month, Jan-Nov. No RSVP needed, just show up! This photo tour also includes a couple tidbits about the Arboretum that you probably won't hear on an official tour! -
Indian Cooking Class at the Redmond Library (9)

Highline Botanical Garden (6)
The Highline Botanical Garden is a lovely ramble in the Seatac area. These photos are from a trip in June of 2009, and come with a special audio bonus! -
Union Bay Natural Area (13)
Do you like birding or jogging/walking in the outdoors? The Union Bay Natural Area by the University of WA is a hot spot for bird sightings, and has several paths running through it for a nice little jaunt by the lake. -
South Seattle Community College Garden (19)
If you're looking for a free activity in the West/South Seattle area, check out the lovely garden at the South Seattle Community College Arboretum. -
"East by Northwest" Exhibit at Northwest African American Museum (4)
The "East by Northwest" Exhibit at the Northwest African American Museum focuses on the experience of Ethiopian immigrants in the Pacific NW. It runs through 10/4/10. The NWAAM is FREE on 1st & 2nd Thursday of the month. -
Mushroom Walk at Bridle Trails State Park (35)
On Halloween 2009, I went for a free guided mushroom walk at the Bridle Trails State Park in Bellevue. -
Discovery Park Beach Bird Walk (13)
The City of Seattle Parks & Recreation Department often offers free bird walks. Here are photos I took on a free "Birds of the Blustery Beach" walk at Discovery Park on January 2, 2010.
