When summertime comes, our local farms are more than just a source of food; they can be a fun spot to take the kids for festivals and U-pick outings or a gorgeous location for special dinner.

Check out the calendar on this page for the schedule of local farmers market, seasonal farm festivals, special farm dinners and more. Below is a map of Seattle-area farmers markets and some other helpful resources for tracking down the freshest food possible.

Farm Fresh Resources

• First stop is Puget Sound Fresh. You can use their searchable Farm and Crop finder tool to track down Puget Sound and Seattle area farm stands, U-picks and more. Also check out their Harvest Schedule pages.
• Another great resource for what's in season is Seasonal Cornucopia by the folks who write the Cook Local blog. Check it out to find out what to expect at the local farmers markets and/or for recipe ideas for what to do with it once you get it home.
• 21 Acres is a local organization that offers agriculture-related events and education.
• Dog Mountain Farm offers beautiful farm dinners (see my account of volunteering at one here), homesteading and cooking classes and kids' activities.
• I took an informal poll on Twitter for favorite U-pick spots, and one offer up is Garden Treasures in Arlington. I'll add more as I hear about and/or head to them!
