Gah!  On April 14, 2009 I accidentally deleted the content I'd originally posted.  Below is the directory portion (thank you, Google caching and "view page source" functionality! Kids, back up your data! One to grow on!), but my overview is lost to the ether. 

Fortunately, CookLocal has an even better list of questions than I had originally.  Also, they will be doing interviews with CSA's over the next few weeks that will not only cover the specifics I have below for comparison purposes, but get into even greater detail, like how much packaging is used, which is a really great question.  So check out the below for an overview, and check back on CookLocal's site as they continue to add!

CSA and Produce Delivery Listings


Boistfort Valley Farm, Curtis, WA

Dates: 20 weeks, starting in mid-June. 

Size/Cost:

  • Family Share: $600/season or $575 if paid by May 1st.
  • Small Share (feeds two): $480/season or $460 if paid by May 1st.
  • Three-season Sustaining Membership available for $1700.

Pick-up Locations/Days: Tuesdays or Thursdays, depending on location (contact for specifics). Ballard, Capitol Hill, Fremont/Wallingford, Mercer Island North & South, Rose Hill/Kirkland, Tukwila and South End sites.  

Other Details:

  • Service can be suspended if you will be absent for four or more deliveries. For less, offer to friend or neighbor.
  • Refer someone to the program and receive a free box.
  • Box includes fresh flowers.
  • Annual open house.
  • Includes produce from Eastern WA.

Dog Mountain Farm, Carnation, WA

Dates/Costs: There are three separate subscription offerings.

  • Spring: Mar 1-May 3, 10 weeks, $150
  • Summer: May 10-Sep 20, 20 weeks, $675 (4 people)
  • Fall: Sep 27-Nov 29, 10 weeks, $350

Pick-up Locations/Days: “Farm pickup [only] unless we have at least 10 subscribers at a single location, or for summer shares only we will have pick up at the Broadway Farmers Market in Seattle on Sundays.”

Other Details:

  • Summer shares periodically include items like pesto, goat cheese and jam.
  • Workshares available.
  • 10% discount on additional produce. Discount and special invite to events.

Eden Organics Delivery

Dates: Year-round. Flexible membership (no minimum amount of time required) and service can be suspended. Weekly or bi-weekly delivery schedule.

Size/Cost:

  • Regular size: 2 or more people ($36)
  • Personal size 1-2 people ($26)

Delivery Location/Days: See website map.

Other Details:

  • Some items from outside NW.
  • Substitutions available.
  • Referral program available.
  • You do not need to be present to accept delivery.

Full Circle Farm, Carnation, WA

Dates: Year-round. Flexible membership (no minimum amount of time required) and service can be suspended.

Size/Cost:

  • Small Box: two people ($30).
  • Medium Box: family of four ($39).
  • Large Box: large family ($48).

Pick-up Locations/Days: multiple locations throughout Seattle and Eastside, mainly on Tue-Wed-Thu, see website for details.

Other Details:

  • Produce is supplied by Full Circle as well as a variety of partner farms. Not all produce is NW-grown.
  • Substitutions are accepted.
  • Additional items like Theo Chocolates, Bluebird Grains, coffee, eggs and honey available through their Green Grocer.

Garden Treasures, Arlington, WA

Dates: June 25, 2010-November 5, 2010.

Size/Cost:

  • Full Share, $675:  for most families who enjoy fresh vegetables.  10-12 items per week, $34 per week
  • Economy Share, $500:   8-10 items per week, $25 per week
  • Trial Share, $125:  A great introduction to our program without the commitment.  (If you join our CSA, subtract $125 from your share price.)

Pick-up Locations/Days: Members will pick-up their CSA box at 7537 9th Avenue NW Seattle, WA 98117, (easiest access alley located between 9th and 10th, and 75th and 77th) between Noon and 6PM each Friday beginning June 25, 2010 through November 5, 2010

Other Details:

  • "Your produce is field washed.  Basic crops like lettuce mix, spinach, carrots, beets, onions, tomatoes, sweet corn, cucumbers, green beans, strawberries, kale, chard and potatoes make up the foundation of your share.  Other items become available for shorter intervals during the season.  Both shares include a generous portion of vegetables and usually one fruit per week."
  • CSA Members receive 20% off all food items at the Garden Treasures Farmstand.
  • Certified Organic


Helsing Junction Farm, Rochester, WA

Dates: mid-June to mid-October

Size/Cost:

  • Small: 2 people. $25/week, $450 total (deposit + 3 monthly payments of $112.50 each).
  • Large: 3-4 people. $36/week, $650 total (deposit + 3 monthly payments of $162.50 each)

Pick-up Locations/Days: Multiple locations throughout Seattle, 3-9 pm Tuesdays or Thursdays depending on location, see website for details.

Other Details:

  • If you join after season has started, your cost will be pro-rated.
  • Fresh flowers available.
  • Bulk (strawberries, potatoes, basil) and storage (shallots, onions, garlic and squash) shares available.
  • Can donate to food bank through membership.
  • Members invited to open house field day and annual music festival

Jubilee Farm, Carnation, WA

Dates:

  • Winter Session: Feb 4-Mar 11
  • Early Spring: Mar 18-Apr 22
  • Late Spring Session: Apr 29-Jun 3
  • Summer Session: Jun 17-Oct 28
  • Fall Session: Early Nov-Mid-Dec

Size/Cost:

  • For Summer Session:
    • Couples share ($600 for farm pick-up; $696 for pick-up at assigned site in town)
    • Family share ($800 for farm pick-up; $896 for pick-up at assigned site in town)
  • For all other sessions:
    • Regular share: $225
    • Three-quarter share: $175

Pick-up Locations/Days:

  • Various locations in town (start application process online to see sites)
  • During summer, you can also choose a regular pick-up at the farm.

Other Details:

  • Arrangements can sometimes be made if you need to miss a week.
  • Summer session has a u-pick option and kids’ events.
  • Work shares are available.

Lake Cavanaugh Farm, Lake Cavanaugh, WA

Dates: Jun-Oct (2009 dates TBD as of this writing)

Size/Cost: 2-4 people, $525 (can be made in two payments)

Pick-up Locations/Days: Wednesdays; Mt. Baker, Wallingford or at farm. (Please note these were for 2008, subject to change for 2009)

Other Details: Limited to 25 subscribers.


Local Roots Farm, Carnation, WA

Dates: Early Jun to mid-Oct

Size/Cost: Payment can be made in two installments, first due Mar 15, last June 1.

  • Standard, 2 people who cook at home 3-4 nights/week ($400)
  • Large, has 1-2 additional items and larger quantities ($500)

Pick-up Locations/Days: Tuesdays, time TBD based on location.

  • Capitol Hill
  • Downtown Seattle (limited site)
  • Maple Leaf
  • Local Roots Farm

Other Details:

  • Arrangements can be made if you know at time of final payment about any pre-planned missed pick-ups.

Nature's Last Stand, Carnation, WA

Dates: Year-round. Flexible membership (no minimum amount of time required) and service can be suspended. Weekly or bi-weekly delivery schedule.

Size/Cost:

  • Small: 1-2 people ($35).
  • Large: 4-5 people ($50).

Delivery Locations/Days: Tuesdays or Wednesdays, details confirmed upon order.

Other Details:

  • Produce sourced from both Nature’s Last Stand and other organic producers, some outside the NW.
  • They plan to offer additional products like egg, meats, dairy, bread and more.
  • Refer someone to the program and receive a free box.

New Root Organics Delivery Service

Dates: Year-round. Flexible membership (no minimum amount of time required) and service can be suspended. Weekly or bi-weekly delivery schedule.

Size/Cost:

  • Standard Bin: 12-14 different produce items, qty. for 2-4 people ($35).
  • Personal Bin: same amount of items, qty for 1 person ($25).

Delivery Locations/Days:

  • Mondays: Queen Anne, Magnolia, Downtown, Madison Park, Capitol Hill, First Hill, Central District, and Montlake
  • Tuesdays: Crown Hill, Blue Ridge, Ballard, Fremont, Greenlake, Greenwood, Wallingford, Ravenna and North Seattle.
  • Wednesdays: Ballard, Crown Hill, Blue Ridge, Northbeach, Fremont, Queen Anne, Magnolia, Downtown, Beacon Hill, Columbia City and Rainier Valley
  • Thursdays: West Seattle, Laurelhurst, ViewRidge, Sandpoint, Wedgewood
  • Fridays: Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond, Mercer Island

Other Details:

  • “Large percentage of local (Western WA) produce from one farm on Fir Island, (just West of Mt Vernon) called Frog Song Farm.”
  • Includes produce from Eastern WA and outside NW.
  • You do not need to be home to accept delivery.
  • Coffee is also available.

Oxbow Farm, Carnation, WA

Dates: Jun-Oct (2009 dates TBD as of this writing)

Size/Cost: 4 people, $600. Payment plans available.

Pick-up Locations/Days: Please note these were the 2008 sites/days, subject to change.

  • Wedgwood – Tuesdays
  • Capitol Hill – Fridays
  • Ballard – Sundays

Root Connection, Redmond, WA

Dates: WA-grown produce available for 21 weeks, Jun-Oct.

Size/Cost: 2-6 people.  $29.66 per week, paid in monthly installments, total cost $623. Pay in full by April 15 and receive discount: $604.31.

Pick-up Locations/Days: Maple Leaf, Greenlake, and Edmonds/Lynnwood pick-ups on Wed evenings OR pick-up at farm Wed/Thu/Fri/Sat

Other Details:

  • Non-WA organic share program available in winter.
  • Washington’s oldest CSA.
  • Members can access a U-pick garden with flowers and herbs as well as a children’s garden.

Seattle Market Gardens

Dates: Late May-Late Oct, 2009 dates TBA

Size/Cost:

  • Full Share: 4-6 people ($520)
  • Half Share 2-3 people ($310)

Pick-up Locations/Days: From 2008, subject to change for 2009.

  • High Point, Wednesdays
  • New Holly, Thursdays
  • Greenlake, Saturdays

Other Details:

  • Produce is grown by in-city farmers from Seattle housing communities.
  • “Most farmers are immigrants, primarily from Southeast Asia and East Africa. Besides supplemental income, the gardens provide food for farmers' families and friends, a sense of community, and promote healing for those who have experienced the stresses of war.”

Tiny’s Organics, East Wenatchee, WA

Dates: Jun 17-Nov 12; half season shares available, either first half (Jun 17-Aug 26), or second half (Sep 2-Nov 12)

Size/Cost: 11-13 different produce items each week, usually around 50/50 fruits/veggies, but can vary.

  • Whole season: by June 5: $990 by check, $1049 by credit/debit (can be split into two payments, see app for details); after June 5: $1056 by check, $1119 by credit/debit).
  • Half season: $561 by check, $595 by credit/debit.

Pick-up Locations/Days: Tuesdays afternoons at farm, Wednesdays at various locations through Seattle and Eastside, some for employees at location only, see website for details.

Other Details:

  • No suspension of service, but you can have someone pick up yours if you are unable.
  • Includes produce from other farms.

Whistling Train Farm, between Kent & Auburn, WA

Dates:

  • Summer Share: 20 weeks, starting in Jun. All info below is for Summer Share.
  • Winter Shares also have been offered, and Spring Shares by invite only.

Size/Cost:

  • Small: $350 before Feb 15, $385 after Feb 15, $400 after Mar 15, $415 after Apr 15, $430 after May 15. Add $55 to total for Seattle delivery.
  • Large: $500 before Feb 15, $550 after Feb 15, $565 after Mar 15, $580 after Apr 15, $595 after May 15. Add $55 to total for Seattle delivery.

Pick-up Locations/Days:

  • Capitol Hill
  • North Seattle
  • U-District
  • Columbia City (Wed)
  • West Seattle (Sun)
  • They are considering an Eastside option and you can express interest on the application.

Other Details:

  • Only 100 subscribers accepted.
  • You can opt out of and express a preference for up to three vegetables.
  • U-pick available.
  • They provide 10% of shares to hungry families.
  • Eggs available.
