Coffee & Tea

Intro

Recent studies have shown that regular coffee intake can ward off dementia, and that coffee before a workout can help reduce the pain of strenuous exercise.

Well, good thing we live in a town that takes this health drink seriously. Here's a roundup of ways to appreciate the bean in our fair city. And in case you want a breather from that hot beverage, I'll throw in a few tea events as well!

General Coffee & Tea Resources

  • New book Tall Skinny Bitter by Fuel’s Dani Cone and Chris Munson focuses on Seattle’s coffee culture.
  • Seattle Times Coffee City blog has news about our local coffee scene and the industry as a whole – great resource.
  • The blog for Seattle Coffee Gear has recipes, method videos and brewing tips.
  • Rebekah Denn, formerly of the Seattle PI and now of Eat All About It, has an interview with Daniel Young, author of Coffee Love.
  • ASUW has offered "Coffee from Bean to Cup" classes in the past. Here's my report on it with pictures. I enjoyed the class and would recommend highly if you see it in the calendar below or in their catalog.
  • Did you know with have a Seattle Barista Academy in Renton? We do! They offer mainly pro classes, but have occasional home coffee prep classes. Check the site or the calendar below.
  • KUOW also has a recent interview with Angela Shen of Savor Seattle Walking Tours, with her tips on how to "Eat Your Coffee."
  • And let's not forget about tea! Here's the Tea Geek blog for your one-stop Pacific NW tea news.
  • Caffe Vita and Theo Chocolates have worked to develop a special blend that pairs well with chocolate and they do free public cuppings, generally on the first Friday of each month.
