Intro
Image via Flickr user Kathryn RotondoOur neighbor to the south, Portland, might have the nickname of "Beervana," but we are not exactly dying of thirst here in Seattle. Here are some of the local resources for beer events and maybe even learning to brew your own. As with wine, there are many beer lovers - professional brewers and lay-quaffers - who have their own blogs, so check this out for a beginning overview and then consider heading over to some of those sites for a deeper dive.
Online Beeresources
- Check out the Beer Blog Feed in the sidebar for current updates from many Seattle area beer-focused blogs. The below beer blogs also feature event calendars on their sites, so check them out for more Pacific Northwest beer fun.
- BeerMapping lists brewpubs, breweries, beer shops and homebrew stores.
- RateBeer has a fun feature: glass recommendations they have for each beer rated. They also have a beer events calendar with some NW Events.
Brewing Your Own
- Bob of Bob’s Homebrew Supply has a reputation for being a super-helpful shopkeeper and great resource. (U-District)
- Cellar Homebrew sells online but also has a local retail store. (North Seattle)
- Gallagher’s Where U Brew is an onsite brewing experience. It sounds a bit like a brewing version of the dinner-preparation places that provide the ingredients, equipment and recipes. While this might not give you the most freedom, it definitely sounds like a great way to learn the steps and see how you like the process before committing to your own home set-up.(Edmonds)
