Due to the volume of events covered, cancelations, sold out and full events might not always be updated in the calendar or old blog posts. Please always check directly with the event venue (links to venues or original postings are at the bottom of calendar entries or linked via the event name in blog posts) to ensure the event is still scheduled and available.
Food from Africa & the African Diaspora
Intro
Image via Flickr user LollyKnitHere are some Seattle cooking classes, events and resources related to food from the continent of Africa (Ethiopian, Eritrean, Moroccan, etc.) and foods from the diaspora, where African flavors and ingredients played a role in the development of the cuisine (Caribbean, Southern, Creole, Cajun).
Most public scheduled classes will be posted in the calendar to the right.
Cook's World has occasionally scheduled Ethiopian cooking classes with Mulu Abate, owner/chef of the Pan-African Market.
Kenyatta Carter, the chef of Seattle's beloved (and Fresh-Picked favorite!) Kingfish Cafe, has also done cooking classes at Cook's World and demos at the Broadway market.
Everett Cajun/Creole/Southern restaurant Alligator Soul also offers classes.
The Blue Nile Children's Organization,"a non-profit organization working with orphaned children and their communities in Bahir Dar and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia," offers fund-raising in-home Ethiopian coffee ceremony events.
